Anticipated start date: June 12, 2023

Full Day Camp Leaders (Up to 16 positions): 40 hours per week Mon-Fri (8:45am – 4:15pm)

Part-Time Extended Care Leaders (Up to 10 positions): approx. 20hrs Mon-Fri (7:00am – 9:00am) & (3:30pm – 5:30pm)

Located adjacent to downtown Victoria, Esquimalt is a residential community (population 17,000) with extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.

About the opportunity:

The Parks and Recreation department is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to plan and lead a variety of themed Day Camps and Extended Care programs! We provide 9 weeks of camps (9:00 am – 4:00 pm) that run out of the Esquimalt Recreation Centre, Archie Browning Sport Centre and Bullen Field. This is a temporary, 11-week position requiring the incumbent to work from June 12, 2023, until Sept 1, 2023, with potential to stay on for Fall 2023 in the Out of School Care program.

Compensation and Perks:

  • Salary: $22.89= $20.08 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2023 rates)
  • Staff Recreation Pass with access to the weightroom, drop-in fitness classes, drop-in sports, pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna.
  • 20 hours of paid Summer Camp Training

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the fun and safety of all participants through child supervision, first aid, site safety, risk management and behaviour management. Creating lesson plans, supply lists, and leading up to 9 weeks of summer camps
  • Leading a variety of games, arts/crafts, sports and outdoor recreational activities for children ages 3-17 years-old.
  • Communicate and work cooperatively with participants, parents, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Provide excellent customer service and public relations and enjoy working in a fast-paced outdoor environment. 

Qualifications

  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate / CPR C
  • Experience working with children ages 3-14 in any of the following settings: day camps, sports, out of school care programs, recreational programs.
  • Experience working with individuals with extra support needs (behavioural or cognitive)
  • Clean Criminal Record Check (to be completed when hired)
  • Previous training/education in child or youth care 
  • Class 4 driver’s license (not required for all positions)
