Out of School Care

Esquimalt Recreation Centre offers Out of School Care Programs licensed by the Vancouver Island Health Authority for School Aged Care. Children ages 5-12 (must be currently attending or completed kindergarten) enrolled at Macaulay school are eligible to participate.

Update, April 8, 2022:  Out of School Care Registration 2022/2023:

Online registration for the 2022/2023 OSC program will open on April 19, 2022 at 7:00am PST. Families can apply for the program by submitting the OSC 2022/2023 registration package to [email protected] upon registration opening. Applications must be received by May 3, 2022 to be processed in priorty order.

  1. Current participants applying for exactly what they’re currently registered in as of April 2022
  2. Current Before Care participants wanting After Care
  3. Siblings of current participants entering OSC
  4. 2021/2022 Preschool participants

Out of School Care


Before School Care: Need to start work before the school doors open? Then register your child in our before care program! Our childcare staff will look after your child as early as 6:30am. Children are divided up into groups based off of age and will be playing games, making crafts, reading books and many other fun activities. At 8:30 children are walked to the school by staff to start their school day.

Location: Esquimalt Recreation Centre

Program Time: 6:30am-9:00am

After School Care: Enjoy being free from the stress of making it off work in time to pick up your child! Our after school care childcare staff will pick up the kids at the school and bring them back to the rec centre. Enrolled Children are split into groups based off age. Groups participate in scheduled activities that include gym time, arts & crafts, cricle games, even skating & swimming once a month! Parents can pick up any time before 6:00pm.

Out of School Care Registration


OSC 2022/2023: Online registration for the 2022/2023 OSC program will open on April 19, 2022 at 7:00am PST. More details to come by April 8. 

OSC 2021/2022: Application packages for our 2021/2022 Out of School Care program are available for families to download and fill out. Completed application packages can be submitted via email to [email protected].

After May 4, 2021 we will continue accepting applications for the waitlist. 

As a community we recognize the financial uncertainty families are facing during this challenging time. No fee is required to submit an application. Upon being offered a place in our care, a $30 fee is required to hold your child's spot. Any families experiencing financial hardship during this unprecedented time may notify us in confidence for accommodations to be made.  

We are committed to supporting you as best as we are able during this difficult time. We are in this together.

Pro D Day & Winter Break Camps


Applications for non-OSC registered families are now being accepted. Please fill out the application package using the link below and submit it to [email protected].

Pro-D Days, Early Dismissal, and Winter/Spring Breaks are all separate registrations and are not included in regular Out of School Care fees

    Affordable Childcare Benefit

    We accept families receiving Affordable Childcare Benefit, for more information go to [email protected].

    Children with Disabilities or Require Extra Support: If your child requires extra support or qualifies for funding through Supported Child Development or Aboriginal Supported Child Development please contact the OSC Supervisor prior to registration by phone at 250-412-8512.


    If your child carries an epi-pen or inhaler please complete the appropriate form or, if your child takes any other medication during program time please complete the appropriate Emergency Medical Care Form:
