Archie Browning Sports Centre is back on its regular schedule this morning after a shutdown on Tuesday evening because of a compressor malfunction in its ice plant.

The malfunction at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday resulted in a venting of ammonia gas to reduce system pressure. The amount of ammonia gas vented was considered to be minor. Both the BC Safety Authority and the Ministry of Environment were notified of the situation.

As a safety precaution while the ammonia was venting, the arena was evacuated and scheduled recreation activities were cancelled for the evening. Sports centre staff repaired the compressor and the plant was operational by 9:00 p.m. The plant was monitored throughout the evening to ensure it was operating safely and efficiently.

The facility is now open for regularly scheduled skating and curling programs.
