About our organization:

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna.

About the opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking motivated individuals to fill a childminding position. This is an auxiliary position. Scheduled shifts vary between: Monday – Friday approx.. 9:00am – 1:00pm. Reporting to the Child, Youth & Family Programmer, the preferred candidate will be responsible for:

  • Welcoming parents and their children, ensuring children are signed-in/out.
  • Supervising free play, crafts, and reading while parents use the recreation facility.
  • Providing all required care and support including, but not limited to, behaviour management, parent communication, and first aid.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with infants/toddlers
  • Education in Child & Youth Care, Education, Social Work
  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector

A clear and current criminal record check with vulnerable sector check is a condition of employment and is the financial responsibility of the candidate.

  • SALARY: $20.68- $22.34 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)
