National Indigenous People’s Day is a time to celebrate Indigenous language and culture

Learning more about the history of the residential school system, including the 215 unmarked graves discovered outside the Kamloops Residential School, has motivated many people to take time to reflect, listen and educate themselves about the relationship, past and present, between First Nations and settlers.

There are several resources for those wanting to learn more online and in-person, from stories passed through generations to language lessons. Part of the Township’s efforts towards reconciliation is to help share news and events from the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, to use municipal platforms to share information with the wider community, and to provide learning opportunities for staff.

Find some resources on this page or look to your local Nations for educational opportunities.
