    Reimagining Our Workplace in a Post Pandemic World

    Many professionals, in a variety of workplaces, are reporting that the cumulative wash out effects of uncertainty, loss of control, immense organizational shifts, and staff changes have helped drive burnout and exhaustion to an all-time high. As organizations are re-emerging in a post-pandemic world many are looking for new ways to reinvigorate their teams, foster resilience, and enhance psychological safety in their workplaces. 

    In this session, participants will:

    1. Discover four key principles of psychological safety
    2. Learn a dynamic framework for enhancing workplace resilience
    3. Explore practical “boots on the ground” strategies that foster psychological safety and resiliency among team members
    4. Consider actions to implement key learnings from session

    Introduction to Psychological First Aid & Why it’s Important For Us All

    When crisis occurs, we often are aware of physical risks and injuries, and have various access to training to assist others in physical distress. Often, crisis also brings forth emotional or psychological distress, in many forms, and the untrained eye may miss or misread the signals. Karla's presentation will introduce the idea of Psychological First Aid, using the model developed by the UN, and explain what to look for, any this is important, and how to respond to those in emotional or psychological distress. The hope is that participants will leave with greater understanding and practical skills.

    Speaker: Karla Dolinsky - registered clinical counsellor who works with individuals with complex trauma, critical incident trauma, as well as loss/grief/relationship challenges

    Connect to Protect

    From being a First Responder to Counselling First Responders: Tips and tools for resilience and healing I learned along the way.

    In this presentation Jill will relay the latest research in regard to trauma and first responders including the impact of organizational and operational stress and the challenges with work life balance. Jill will share her journey through policing as well as life on the other side as a retired police officer who works full time in private practice counselling First Responders. She will explain how a healthy connection to self and others is the “secret sauce” of wellness.

    Responding to Traumatic Incidents in the Workplace

    This interactive session will seek discussion with the audience for examples of common responses of employees; cognitively, physiologically, behaviourally. Learn:

    • tools for organizations to have something/steps in place for the time period right after an incident. 
    • traumatic incident definitions/examples: (sudden death, cardiac, MVA, loss of child/pregnancy, suicide, medical diagnosis, workplace accident, etc.)
    • how organizational leaders can address a traumatic incident 
    • psychological first aid post-incident model/peer support check ins/follow ups 
    Speaker: Isabell Ruediger - a registered counsellor and former firefighter/first responder specializing in responding to traumatic incidents in the workplace.

    We all know them: the complainer, the sniper, the passive-aggressive, the outright aggressive, the negativist. Navigating the minefield of behaviours in our personal and professional lives can be both stressful and exhausting. Why spin your wheels any longer? Learn how to deal effectively with challenging personality types through this strategy-based presentation.

    Understand the motivations of various challenging temperaments. Recognize your own style of relating. Learn how to replace counter-productive tension with effective communication and positive outcomes. It’s true - people sometimes suck. But you don’t have to.

    The Impact of Organizational Trauma: How to Support Employee Mental Wellness

    Matt Johnson is a leading expert workplace trauma and has responds as clinical counsellor to workplaces that have had a significant event with the loss of an employee or a traumatic death within the organization.

    Matt works alongside the employees and the employer guiding them through the process of recovery after a traumatic incident.

    Matt has worked with several organization and first responder agencies, he understands Work safe legislation and provides support when there has been significant organizational trauma.
