Environmental Areas

The Official Community Plan has established Development Permit Area No. 4 for properties adjacent to the Gorge Waterway and those within 30 metres of the high water mark of the Gorge. The Gorge Waterway has been declared an environmentally sensitive area, due to its role in providing fish and wildlife habitat.

Within Development Permit Area No. 4:

  • New development is not permitted within 20 metres of the high water mark
  • The foreshore area must be left in a natural state or restored to a natural state.
  • The restriction on development applies to structures such as gazebos, pools, decks, and retaining walls.
  • Please consult the Development Services Department at 250-414-7108, if you are planning any structural work or clearing of the foreshore area.
