The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:
The Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill an auxiliary full-time Recreation Programmer position responsible for the Aquatics portfolio for a term of approximately six months. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, the Programmer supervises the Aquatics team and is responsible for the administration of all Aquatic programs and services. This position will appeal to a flexible, resourceful, and adaptable team leader with an eye for emerging trends and technologies that can benefit the department.
Our Preferred Candidate:
The incumbent will provide quality, affordable, sustainable, and responsive services in the area of Aquatics. This position will be expected to plan, develop, promote, implement, and evaluate Aquatic programs, events and services, and will be key in recruitment, promotion, and development of Aquatic staff and volunteers.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Diploma in Recreation Administration (2 years or equivalent)
- Technical Certification – NL, WSI, Aquafit Instructor Training, SI Trainer, NL Trainer
- Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
- Basic First Aid with CPR “C”
- Two years’ related experience in a municipal or similar environment
- Proficiency with XplorRecreation or similar recreation management software
- Knowledge and experience with recreation programming and budgeting
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
Salary: $37.45 – $40.40 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2024 rates)
Hours per week: 35
