One of Esquimalt’s landmark buildings, the Tudor House Pub, has been destroyed by fire.

Fire crews are currently using positive pressure fans to dissipate the smoke.

The intersection of Admirals and Esquimalt Road is closed until further notice while emergency personnel determine the stability of the structure. Township Public Works crews have erected barricades at the intersection. Residents and commuters are advised to avoid the intersection and use alternate routes.

The fire call was received by Esquimalt Fire at 2:30 a.m. and crews were on scene by 2:32 a.m. Mutual aid from the Department of National Defence was requested and DND crews were on scene by 2:33 a.m. A total of five fire trucks attended the scene: three engines and two ladder trucks.

The building was fully engulfed when crews arrived on scene. No injuries were reported. More than a dozen local residents in nearby apartments were evacuated because of heavy smoke. Esquimalt Emergency Social Services was activated and provided assistance to eight evacuees during the night in a BC Transit bus. Residents have now returned home.
