Township Addressing Community Concerns

News

As a result of increasing community concern being voiced to individual Panel members regarding policing services in Esquimalt and their associated review, the Policing and Law Enforcement Advisory Panel met on October 12th to determine what information should be brought before Council for their review and approval for public release. These Panel communication recommendations will be examined by Council “in-camera” at their next scheduled meeting Monday, October 17th, and then the Council-approved information will be publicly released by the end of next week.

Information relating to an interim review by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General regarding policing in Victoria and Esquimalt has been released to the media. The Township sees this interim review as a continuation of the Ministry’s ongoing due diligence process carrying on from their Victoria Police Department Police Act Audit: Service Level Review dated March 4, 2010. As Esquimalt receives policing services from Victoria Police Department, our Township is a key stakeholder in this review process.
