Esquimalt's Pesticide Use Reduction Bylaw, 2008, No. 2686, which regulates the use of Pesticides within the Township of Esquimalt came in to full force and effect on July 14, 2009. The intent of this bylaw is to ban the use of Pesticides which pose a risk to the natural environment including the air, land and water. The unlawful application of Pesticides within the Township of Esquimalt can result in fines.

Alternatives to pesticides do exist, many local retailers have environmentally safe products available.
