Community members are invited to attend a meeting to share their praise and or voice their concerns on policing in Esquimalt. The Town Hall Meeting will take place Tuesday, June 2, 2009 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. in Council Chambers, Esquimalt Municipal Hall, located at 1229 Esquimalt Road.

The Town Hall meeting is a unique opportunity for Esquimalt community members to speak directly with the Victoria Police Department’s Chief Jamie Graham and Esquimalt’s new West Division Inspector Darrell McLean.

“We know that individual police officers are out there doing a great job. The Town Hall meeting is an opportunity for the Victoria Police, Esquimalt Council and residents to openly discuss how policing services can be improved for the community,“ says Mayor Barb Desjardins.

The Town Hall meeting will begin with short presentations by Chief Jamie Graham and Mayor Barb Desjardins. Police Chief Graham will begin by explaining the police service model being delivered in Esquimalt, current policing levels, and the key challenges facing the Victoria Police Department. Mayor Barb Desjardins, as the Council representative and Vice-Chair of the Police Board, will discuss what the provincial policing audit entails and share Esquimalt Council’s concerns on policing. The public will then have a chance to ask questions of Police Chief Jamie Graham, West Division Inspector Darrell McLean, and Mayor Barb Desjardins.

The Town Hall meeting achieves two of Esquimalt Council’s strategic goals. The key goal is to improve policing service in Esquimalt. Another goal is hosting community face to face events which allows for open communication.
