Esquimalt council voted to close Esquimalt Municipal Hall on the three working days between Christmas and New Year’s Day on an annual basis.

The hall will be closed to reduce pressure on maintaining minimum staffing levels needed when the building is open to the public.

This decision follows suit with View Royal, Colwood, Langford, Metchosin, Sidney, North Saanich, and Oak Bay who also close between Christmas and New Years, and have done so the past several years.

With the implementation of online services, staff anticipate the closure of Municipal Hall for the three non-statutory holiday days between Christmas and New Year’s Day will not significantly impact services for the residents of Esquimalt.

Staff have the option to come to work and carry on normal tasks during that time or to take vacation days.
