The Archie Browning Sports Centre parking lot is beginning its transformation as the temporary home for the Esquimalt Fire Department.
Because the new Esquimalt public safety building will be built on the same property as the existing one, staff and equipment from the Esquimalt Emergency Program, the Victoria Police Esquimalt Division and the Esquimalt Fire Department need to be relocated. The current building will be demolished.
The temporary fire department location will be at the Archie Browning location until the new safety building's completion in 2024.
The next phase in relocating staff from the building will be to move emergency program and VicPD personnel. This will happen after the Esquimalt branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library moves to its new location in the Esquimalt Town Square.
Demolition of the existing safety building is slated for early 2022.
