About our Organization:

The Recreation Division runs programs and services in: the Esquimalt Recreation Centre featuring a 4500 + square foot weightroom, gymnasium and aquatic centre, the Archie Browning Sports Centre with an ice arena, curling arena, and multipurpose spaces and the Gorge Park Pavilion which hosts weddings, conferences, and events.  In addition to recreation activities and programs, there are numerous year-round community events and programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill a temporary, auxiliary full-time Recreation Programmer – Community Development position for a term of approximately five months. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, this position requires you to be an exceptional team player with the highest standards of customer service. The Community Development Programmer will:

  • Plan, promote, implement, provide direct leadership for, and evaluate community-based recreation programs, events and services
  • Liaise, support, and maintain strong working relationships with community members and groups
  • Oversee operation of the Archie Browning Sports Centre lounge
  • Order stock and related materials and supplies
  • Ensure compliance with food and beverage licencing and other regulatory requirements 
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff and volunteers
Our Preferred Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A diploma in Recreation Administration (2 years)
  • Valid Class-5 BC Driver’s License
  • Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR “C”
  • Serving It Right certification
  • Possess and maintain clear criminal record check including vulnerable sector check
  • 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Salary: $45.73 – $49.34 hourly. This rate includes an additional 14% in lieu of benefits.

Hours per week: 35 hours per week. Schedule varies based on operational requirements, including evenings and weekends approximately 2-6 times per month October to April and approximately 4-8 times per month May to September
