About our Organization:
The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from.

About the Opportunity:
The Parks and Recreation department is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organized individual to assist the Recreation Programmer in creating, promoting, and implementing Youth programs for the Esquimalt community, including running the Esquimalt Teen Centre. This position requires a high level of planning, leadership, and organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Recreation Programmer in hiring, training, and scheduling youth staff at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre.
- Supervise, lead and review the work of youth centre staff, volunteers and practicum students.
- Assist the Recreation Programmer in developing youth programs and special events.
- Responsible for assessment of program needs, the development and supervision of program details, liaise with Parks and Recreation Department staff, customers and user groups, and the evaluation of programs and events.
- Provide information for advertising and create promotional materials for youth programs, youth camps, fundraisers, special events and related teen centre activities.
- Assist in the preparation of program schedules for the teen centre.
- Oversee the daily operation of the youth programs, youth camps and teen centre to ensure all safety, risk management, reports, emergency response / first aid, program, and facility standards are maintained.
- Work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and school hours to provide outreach.
- Plan and implement Youth Leadership program.
Our Preferred Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Diploma in Recreation, child and youth care, or equivalent education
- Minimum 1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working with children/youth in a similar environment
- Current Standard First Aid Certification (16-20 hours)
- Current Criminal Record Check
Salary: $35.25 – $38.02 hourly plus benefits (2024 rates)
Hours per week: average 24hrs per week, max of 35hrs
September – June: Wednesdays: Afternoon/Early Evening; Thursday – Saturday: Evenings
July – August: Monday- Friday – hours based on operational/program need
