Residents Reminded of Fire Protection Bylaw

News

Esquimalt Fire Rescue has recently responded to a number of illegal outdoor fires in the Township.

The department reminds residents that under Fire Protection and Control Bylaw, 2011, No. 2783 that “open air burning” is prohibited. This includes backyard and beach fires that use wood as a source of fuel. Persons found to be in violation of the Bylaw are subject to a fine.

Outdoor appliances that use charcoal briquettes, natural gas, or propane are allowed for residential use without a permit providing that the appliance sits on a firm non-combustible base. For all other fires, a permit is required from the fire department.

With recent hot, dry weather it is more important than ever to respect the Bylaw. Please help Esquimalt Fire Rescue to protect your community and ensure a safe summer season.
