The Esquimalt Engineering and Public Works Department advises that crews will be painting lines on major corridors in the Township overnight Thursday August 24th and again on Friday August 25th. The contamination of Gorge Creek first reported on July 29, 2017 was apparently caused by the deliberate dumping of septic tank sewage and a disinfecting chemical into a stormwater drain south of Esquimalt Gorge Park.  Lab results from the creek confirmed the presence of fecal coliform and e-coli, and other evidence also suggests the presence of a disinfecting chemical. On July 29th, Esquimalt’s Engineering and Public Works Department was notified of a substance introduced into the Gorge Waterway at Gorge Creek, which flows through the western boundary of Esquimalt Gorge Park. Five booms were deployed in the creek at that time to help contain the substance. The Township is working with Island Health, the Capital Regional District, and Spill BC in its response.... Read more
