With Queen Elizabeth’s funeral set to take place on Monday, September 19, 2022, the Canadian federal government has followed the lead of other Commonwealth countries and announced that Monday September 19, 2022 will be declared a National Day of Mourning and a federal holiday in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.  

Therefore, Monday September 19, 2022  (this year only) will be treated as any other statutory holiday and operations will be adjusted to reflect the observance of this holiday.  

Garbage schedule changes

Residents who normally have their garbage picked up on Monday, September 19 will have it picked up on Tuesday, September 20.

Yard and garden drop-off

The Yard and Garden Facility will be closed on Monday per the normal schedule and re-open Tuesday, September 20.

Council meeting

There will be a council meeting on Tuesday, September 20 as Monday's meeting was rescueduled.

Recreation services

  • Esquimalt Recreation Centre facility and weight room open from 7am-7pm
  • All registered and drop in programs are cancelled
  • Please note the aquatics facility is still closed for annual maintenance
  • Esquimalt Gorge Pavilion is closed
  • ABSC is open to rentals only
