Public Input Opportunity: Green Event Planning Guide

Type(s)
News

The Township of Esquimalt is inviting local organizations, event planners and the public to provide input into its Draft Green Event Planning Guide.

Staff, with the assistance of the Environmental Advisory Committee, created the guide in order to share knowledge they have gained in promoting and designing green events. Council reviewed the draft at a June 17th Council Meeting and requested that staff collect input and resubmit the document to Council for consideration in fall 2013.

The guide covers every aspect of green event planning, including:

  • deciding on the event venue and how it impacts transportation planning;
  • procuring the materials and equipment that are required for the event;
  • selecting the type of food served at the event;
  • developing a strategy to reduce waste and collect recyclable and compostable materials; and
  • implementing a communication strategy to promote green events.

Council has indicated it will consider making the Green Event Planning Guide a municipal policy by 2015.
