Esquimalt, B.C—Councillor Andrea Boardman has been elected by Esquimalt council to replace Mayor Barbara Desjardins as the township’s elected official representation on the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board. Mayor Desjardins stepped down from the role in earlier this month.
Councillor Boardman was elected by Esquimalt council at a July In Camera meeting to fill the vacant position.
“The township recognizes the important role of the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board in delivering police services for the Township of Esquimalt and the City of Victoria, and ensuring transparent, accountable service to both communities”, said Mayor Desjardins.
Councillor Boardman brings a balanced perspective and a strong commitment to representing the Township of Esquimalt and supporting the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board. Recently retired from Island Health after 41 years, she has extensive experience in Operations, Human Resources, and Communications. She holds a BSc in Nursing from UVic and an Executive MBA from UBC. Her most recent roles include Executive Director of Protection Services and a secondment to the Ministry of Health to lead the development of a provincial hospital security program.
The role of the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board is to provide civilian oversight to the activities of the Victoria Police Department, on behalf of the residents of Esquimalt and Victoria.
