Notice

With snow in the forecast, here's what you need to know about Esquimalt Parks & Recreation programs, parks and facilities during inclement weather events.

Recreation Facilities

Provided the facilities have power (BC Hydro website) and BC Transit is in operation, facilities will remain open. Should operational hours be modified, this page will be updated and notices will be shared through Facebook and Twitter.

Drop-in Schedules

Drop-in program schedules will be maintained in real-time on the schedules page of our website esquimalt.ca/schedules

Registered Programs

Registered program participants will be contacted in the event of program cancellations and refunds will be processed appropriately.  First notices will be issued via email and then via phone as high volume of calls are managed during weather events. It is helpful but not required to reply to the cancellation notice by email to indicate "received".

Program, Park, Facility Updates

Parks & Facility Maintenance During Weather Events

Parks and facility crews will be actively clearing related access points and parking lots. During this work or where safety concerns may be present, temporary closures may be in effect. Residents/property owners are kindly reminded property owners are responsible for clearing snow from sidewalks in front of their properties and are encouraged to assist neighbours when possible.

Sport field updates will be shared with field closures. Fields are closed to prevent situations that may lead to player injury and degradation of the field surfaces. Frozen or snow covered field surface, excessive frost are conditions that warrant field closures.

To report a concern within these space, please email and staff will respond as soon as possible.

Watch for tree & branches during extreme weather events

During extreme weather events, trees may shed branches and/or fail. Where such has impacted power lines (downed lines or branches on lines), keep a safe distance and report to BC Hydro at 1-800-224-9376

Further municipal information will be made available through the news section on our website.
