Staff are monitoring traffic backups on Esquimalt roads due to the closure of the eastbound lane of the Point Ellice Bridge in Victoria. The township shares a border with the City of Victoria and is located about 1KM from the bridge.
Commuters are asked to respect local road speeds and to be mindful of other road users, particularly children and other vulnerable people. In terms of main roads, staff will continue to work with Saanich/View Royal Engineering staff on traffic signal coordination to make flow as efficient as possible through Esquimalt. City of Victoria is also looking at adjusting the timing of their signals where feasible.
Regarding emergency access, Esquimalt Fire Rescue Service crews are well-trained in negotiating Esquimalt roadways to maintain response times.
We thank everyone for their patience during the infrastructure maintenance project.
