Esquimalt, B.C.—Starting Friday, April 9, members of the community will have the opportunity to take part in a veterans memorial banner program in the Township of Esquimalt. The banners will feature their loved one’s name and conflict served set on the backdrop of a remembrance-themed design.

"As a military town we are proud to give support, recognition and thanks to those who serve our great country, " said Mayor Barbara Desjardins. “We value honouring the past, celebrating our present and imagining our future."

The banners will be displayed along Esquimalt Road and near CFB Esquimalt in fall 2021.

In 2019, council approved the program to honour deceased veterans, however the 2020 launch was delayed due to COVID-19. The 2021 launch falls on Vimy Ridge Day.

Banners will be available for purchase online starting April 9, 2021. Due to the number of available spaces, there are a limited number of banners available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The banners are being produced locally and the price is set on a cost-recovery basis of $100.

Details and purchase information is at esquimalt.ca/banners.
