Esquimalt, B.C.—Starting December 20, all township employees will be required to provide proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
“This policy is our way of bolstering not only the health and safety of our staff, but of all visitors to township facilities,” said Chief Administrative Officer Laurie Hurst. “We’ve set a reasonable timeframe so that those who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated can get this done before December 20.”
Esquimalt joins other municipalities and employers such as WorkSafeBC, BC Hydro, the Capital Regional District, the District of Saanich, and the City of Vancouver that have also announced vaccine mandates. Accommodations will be made for those employees who can’t be fully vaccinated for legitimate reasons.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Township has followed the guidelines and Orders set out by the Provincial Health Officer and WorkSafeBC and continues to review opportunities and best practices regarding the protection of staff and members of the public.
While not required by the staff policy, all members of Esquimalt council have self-declared to be fully vaccinated.
