This weekend Esquimalt will be alive with entertainment and activity from noon on Friday straight through until Sunday evening with events for the whole family -- and for all of the senses.

Kicking things off on Friday the 13th is the Esquimalt Ribfest in Bullen Park, a three-day celebration of all things ribs including a cook-off between five champion barbecue teams, a kid’s zone, music all weekend, a refreshment garden, a variety of vendors and the world’s first Rugby Combine from Rugby Canada. For a complete listing of entertainment, hours, food and sponsors, go to the Esquimalt Ribfest website.

On Saturday September 14th, the Second Annual Cars, Rods and Rides Show will be staged at the Archie Browning Curling Rink parking lot. Enjoy an incredible display of vehicles of all kinds at this free car show – from classics of an earlier era to modern all-electric vehicles. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features door prizes, bucket draws and 50/50 tickets. The show is a fundraising event for Esquimalt’s Celebration of Lights. Come out and support this worthy cause (and enjoy some great ribs while you’re there!) More information here.

On Sunday September 15th, the weekend finale is a rock concert for the ages: Bad Company will be performing in Bullen Park as part of their 40th Anniversary Tour. Renowned Canadian band Chilliwack will be opening for the English rock super group. One of the most acclaimed bands of the classic rock era, Bad Company has put its indelible stamp on rock 'n' roll with a straight-ahead, no-frills approach that has resulted in the creation of some of the most timeless rock anthems ever. Original band members Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke will be performing such international hits as Can’t Get Enough, Bad Company and Feel Like Makin’ Love.  Tickets available at the McPherson Box Office, the Esquimalt Recreation Centre and online at http://hightideconcerts.net/

There will be limited parking near the venue, so attendees are urged to walk, bike, use BC Transit or carpool to the events. For bus schedules, visit: www.bctransit.com/regions/vic. Bike racks for lockup are available near the Esquimalt Recreation Centre and at other locations in the Township. Download a map of Township bicycle rack locations here. For this weekend only, additional car parking will also be available at the CFB Esquimalt parking lot located at the corner of Canteen Road and Lyall Street.
