Parks Department Improving Safety for Residents

The Parks Department of the Township of Esquimalt will be working on two projects aimed at improving community safety over the coming weeks.

The department has engaged a tree services company to trim trees in the Parklands Drive area, along the western edge of the Township north of Admirals Road. Low hanging tree branches will be trimmed to ensure that the Township’s newly acquired fire ladder truck will have unhindered access to homes in the event of a fire or other emergency. The new ladder truck is much larger than its predecessor and fire crews on training exercises have identified Parklands Drive as an area where truck access could be hindered.

In addition, Esquimalt Parks has removed the wooden play structure at the Totlot Playground in Hither Green, near the intersection of Bewdley Avenue and Lampson Street. The aged structure was considered to be unsafe and will be replaced with new playground equipment in early 2011.
