Online Survey: Should the Township Continue to Hold a New Year';s Day Levee?

Type(s)
News

Since 1947, the Township of Esquimalt has hosted a New Year’s Day Levée. This is a traditional meet-and-greet event held on January 1st of every year, allowing residents an opportunity to meet Mayor and Council. The Lieutenant-Governor, the military and other municipalities have participated in similar events for decades and scheduled Levées are published in local newspapers.

Given the decreasing numbers of participating Esquimalt residents, Mayor Barbara Desjardins has requested that Council review the practice of the traditional Levée and to confirm the value and benefit of continuing to hold a New Year’s Levée or to consider alternatives. Some municipalities have either stopped New Year’s Levées or changed to a less formal community event. As part of the review, the public is being asked to provide input. To participate, please consider taking our online survey.
