EV users in Esquimalt will soon have access to new fast-charging stations at Archie Browning Sports Centre.

The six new stations are centrally located near several township amenities, including both the arena and recreation centre.

The installation of 6 Level 3 DC fast chargers is led by BC Hydro. BC Hydro will provide technical expertise, support for the installation, maintenance and funding of the chargers.
The chargers will be placed where existing accessible parking spots are located, with the accessible spots moving 4 metres west next to the Esquimalt Plaza lot.

In 2024, 43% of community GHG emissions in Esquimalt came from transportation, especially resulting from the operation of cars and trucks. Providing additional EV chargers in strategic locations in the township will make it easier for users to reduce their emissions.

Construction will take place from late July until early September. During construction, a small portion of the Archie Browning lot will be inaccessible to vehicles. Signage and traffic control personnel will direct users to detour routes. Any significant traffic interruptions will be shared through Esquimalt Alert.
