The Township of Esquimalt is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Jancowski as its new Fire Chief, starting March 23rd, 2015.

“I am delighted to welcome Mr. Jancowski to his new position at the Township,” said Chief Administrative Officer Laurie Hurst. “His record of leadership and knowledge of fire services speaks for itself and we look forward to the important contributions he will bring to Esquimalt Fire Rescue and to the senior leadership team.”

Chief Jancowski brings 22 years of fire service experience to the Township, including the past six and a half years as Deputy Fire Chief at the City of Port Alberni, serving a population of 17,000. Prior to Port Alberni, he was the Fire Chief/Emergency Program Coordinator of the Town of Qualicum Beach.

Since 2005, Chief Jancowski has shared his fire service knowledge and expertise as an instructor with a variety of learning centres, including North Island College and the Justice Institute of BC. In 2013 he was recognized as Fire Training Officer of the Year by the Fire Training Officers’ Association of BC. Chief Jancowski has also been an active leader provincially through his involvement with the Fire Chiefs’ Association of BC where he mentors newly appointed fire chiefs.

“I’m thrilled to join the Township and look forward to contributing to the community in fire and life safety,” said Chief Jancowski. “I am excited about getting to know the members of the department and building relationships with community partners.”
