Esquimalt, BC—After a successful restart of the Esquimalt Recreation Centre’s weight room, the Township is continuing to expand recreation services by resuming some of their popular fitness classes.

Strength, spin, TRX and other classes are being offered as of July 6 by registration only. More options will be added as staff refine the new processes.

Visitors to the centre are required to respect new safety protocols while adjusting to some operating changes, such as limited locker availability and enhanced equipment and facility cleaning.

The recreation safety protocols were created based on rules and guidelines from health officials and professional associations, including the Provincial Health Officer, Island Health, the BC Recreation and Parks Association and others.

The fitness centre has been open for weight workouts since Tuesday, June 23 with hours to be expanded as of June 29 to accommodate more guests. Staff are in the process of evaluating other activities, like pool access, for possible opening timelines. The indoor aquatic facilities remain closed for the present time while planning is in process.

Information about program registration and safety protocols can be found at Esquimalt.ca/recreation.  More information about the Township's COVID-19 response can be found at esquimalt.ca/covid19.
