Thanks to a BC Hydro Community Regreening Grant, the Township of Esquimalt will be greener than ever.

BC Hydro granted the municipality $17,350, the largest regreening grant it has received to date.

“We will be planting trees throughout the municipality, including along boulevards and in our parks.” said Esquimalt’s manager of parks services Andy Katschor. “The grant allows us to restore some areas and enhance others.”

Katschor added that attractive low-growing species will be planted under power lines to minimize hazards to the lines.

BC Hydro launched the Community Regreening Program in 2004 to reduce electrical hazards while enhancing urban forests—creating safer, more attractive, sustainable communities in which to live.
