The Township of Esquimalt Centennial Celebrations Select Committee announced today the government funding partners and official sponsors for its 2012 centennial celebrations.

“Our government funding partners and official sponsors will make our milestone year a memorable one for the community and the entire region with their generous contributions,” said Mayor Barbara Desjardins.

Esquimalt Centennial 2012 will be supported with $75,000 from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development’s City Anniversary Celebrations, $30,970 from the federal Canadian Heritage Branch's Building Communities through Arts and Heritage Program, and $10,000 from the Province of BC Francophone Affairs Program.

Since 2009, the Centennial Celebrations Select Committee has been planning the Esquimalt Centennial 2012 exciting line-up of events and special legacy projects. “To have our funding partners and sponsors come forward in this way makes a big difference to our celebrations,” said Centennial Celebrations Committee Chair Janet Jones. “We are looking forward to seeing our vision realized as a result of these outstanding contributions.”

The Township is hosting several events throughout the year, including its Centennial Community Celebration at Esquimalt Gorge Park on September 8th 2012.
