Election signs on municipal property: where not to place them
For complete details on the township's policy regarding election signs on municipal property, read the full document.
Briefly, election signs shall not:
a) Be placed upon municipally-owned parcels of land such as the Municipal Hall, Recreation Center or Public Parks;
b) Be placed upon municipal road allowances immediately abutting municipally-owned parcels of land or a public school;
c) Be placed within landscaped medians or traffic islands located within municipal road allowances;
d) Exceed 0.37 square metres (4 square feet) in size when placed on a municipal road allowance.
Residents concerned that a sign is placed improperly may contact the candidate directly or make a complaint to our Bylaw Services.
The next local government election will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
There will be multiple voting opportunities for the 2026 General Local Election:
- Advance voting 1 - October 7, 2026 - 527 Fraser St, Esquimalt Recreation Centre Gym from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
- Advance voting 2 - October 14, 2026 - 527 Fraser St, Esquimalt Recreation Centre Gym from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
- General voting day - October 17, 2026 - 527 Fraser St, Esquimalt Recreation Centre Gym from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
- Mail ballots - Mail ballot voting is available to all qualified electors in the 2026 General Local Election. This is an expanded voting option for voters, both resident and non-resident property electors. To ensure adequate delivery time, mail ballots will not be mailed out after October 6, 2026. Mail ballots may be picked up from Esquimalt Municipal Hall until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Mail ballot application forms can also be picked up from the Corporate Services Department at Municipal Hall.
