ESQUIMALT, BC—The Township of Esquimalt is taking an important step forward in community engagement with the launch of a comprehensive Community Satisfaction Survey.
The survey addresses large themes as well as service-specific questions to help inform council in decision-making as well as staff in shaping programs and service priorities.
The survey was mailed to 1,600 randomly selected Esquimalt households last week. This approach ensures results are statistically significant, meaning the findings will accurately reflect the perspectives of the broader community. This is the first survey of this kind issued by Esquimalt in recent years.
Mayor and council are encouraging residents to participate, highlighting the survey as a meaningful opportunity to shape the township’s future. For those who did not receive the mailed package, an online version is open to all residents, with responses tracked separately.
“We want to know what residents love about Esquimalt and what they’d like to see be improved,” said the Mayor Barbara Desjardins. “This survey will help us better understand resident concerns and use that information in our council priority planning.”
In the near term, the statistically significant survey will support data-driven decisions for planning and service improvements. The survey will also function to create a benchmark to gauge perspectives and priorities over time. By establishing a reliable benchmark now, council and staff will be able to track trends over time and adjust programs and investments as community needs evolve.
Results from both the randomized survey and the open online version will be compiled and presented to Council later this spring. The findings will help shape future planning, improve communication and ensure Esquimalt continues to thrive as a responsive and resident-focused community.
The public version of the survey is open until March 23 and can be found at EngagingEsquimalt.ca. Those mailed the randomized surveys are asked to mail them by March 15.
