Certificates of Commendation were presented to Captain Troy Saladana, Firefighter Jason Hutchinson and Firefighter Morgan Williams at a Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday December 11, 2017 in Council Chambers. The three members of the Esquimalt Fire Department rescued a man being swept out with the tide in the Gorge Waterway near the Tillicum Bridge on April 16, 2015.

A Certificate of Commendation, approved by the Governor General of Canada in 1993, is issued to those who have made a significant contribution by providing assistance to another person in a selfless manner. They are signed by the Governor General and are intended for eligible candidates whose actions are deemed notable by the Canadian Decorations Advisory Committee.
