Visit us at the community workshop
Join us at this workshop to learn more about sea level rise in the Gorge and Portage Inlet and to share your knowledge, experience and values to help guide sea level rise planning for the area.
The feedback you provide through the workshop will help shape the Gorge Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy, a collaboration between Victoria, Esquimalt, Saanich and View Royal, with support from the Capital Regional District.
There is also an ongoing survey that is open until September 30.
About the project
Climate change is causing sea levels to rise, including in the Gorge Waterway and Portage Inlet. Flooding is already happening in this area, impacting private, public and natural spaces.
In 2021, the CRD Coastal Flood Inundation Mapping Project was released, which identified how sea level rise and tsunami events are likely to cause flooding; areas along the Gorge and Portage Inlet were highlighted as particularly vulnerable in low-lying areas and due to high population density.
Now, we want to understand why this area is important to you to help us prioritize what we want to protect from flooding and future sea level rise. We also want to hear from you about any experience you have with flooding in the Gorge Waterway and Portage Inlet.
