On Saturday, August 10th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. swim admission to the Esquimalt Recreation Centre is being sponsored by the BC Responsible and Problem Gambling Program.
Prevention and Community Engagement Service Provider Shannon Husk shares, "BC Responsible Gambling provides free outreach and counselling around screen time, social media, video gaming and gambling which are all process and behavioural addictions. One of the most important ways of preventing any addiction is encouraging exercise and therefore why we want to pay for a free swim."
During the free swim, participants are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the Rainbow Kitchen. The Rainbow Kitchen serves the community of Esquimalt and beyond with food security measures from week day cold breakfasts or hot lunches prepared and served each day to providing food resources to thousands of others in the CRD through partnerships with other local food security agencies. Currently, the Rainbow Kitchen is experiencing a shortage. For a list of donation needs, please click here.
