How to take part in the Esquimalt urban deer research project

After the prescribed three-year deer survey and in consultation with local First Nations, the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations, and Rural Development has granted the permit required to participate in studying the efficacy of immunocontraception (IC) on deer in the Township of Esquimalt.

From September 9-October 31, 2021, up to 100 female deer will be captured and marked to treat with an immunocontraception (IC) vaccination. Capture teams of at least two people (one team lead/wildlife veterinarian and one field technician) will undertake the work.

We are seeking residents to voluntarily give their permission for capture teams to access their property in order to tag deer. Please fill out the below webform if you would like to take part in this project. In addition, residents may have received the following communications by mail:

Questions or concerns can go to [email protected]. The project website is www.acmelab.ca/esquimaltdeer.
