To wrap up Fire Prevention Week (Sunday, October 9 to Saturday, October 15, 2016), Domino’s Pizza and the Esquimalt Fire Department are partnering to reward Esquimalt residents who have working smoke alarms in their homes with free pizza.

On Saturday, October 15, when Esquimalt residents in single family homes, duplexes and townhouses call Domino’s Pizza at Esquimalt Plaza at 250-405-2858 between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., they may find their pizza is delivered aboard a fire truck.

With the customer’s permission, firefighters will arrive by fire truck and inspect household smoke alarms to make sure they are working. Those with functioning smoke alarms will get their pizza for free.

If a home smoke alarm requires new batteries, the firefighters will provide and replace the batteries. The Esquimalt Fire Department may also arrange for a return visit to install a smoke alarm for residents who require and qualify for free installation.

This is the second consecutive year the Esquimalt Fire Department has partnered with Domino’s Pizza in Esquimalt to reward customers with the potential for a free pizza during Fire Prevention Week. Oak Bay, Victoria, Saanich and Langford Fire Departments are participating in similar campaigns.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme Don’t Wait— Check the Date emphasizes the importance of replacing home smoke alarms every 10 years. Working smoke alarms give you and your family time to get out. Important safety tips to remember are:

  • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home.
  • When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside.
  • Test your smoke alarms monthly. Replace the batteries annually.
  • Replace your smoke alarms every 10 years.
