Located adjacent to downtown Victoria, Esquimalt is a residential community (population 17,000) with extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.

This is a seasonal, 11-week position requiring the incumbent to work on Saturday June 10, 2017 for Esquimalt Block Bash, and from June 19, 2017 until September 1, 2017 with the Community Services area of Parks and Recreation.

This position requires you to supervise and plan a wide variety of activities in a summer camp setting for children ages 3 to 14 years.

The incumbent will:

  • Ensure the fun and safety of all participants through site and risk management
  • Be responsible for program planning, risk management, first aid, and program implementation
  • Communicate and work cooperatively with participants, parents, co-workers and supervisors
  • Have strong leadership abilities and knowledge of games, crafts, sports, and outdoor recreational activities for children ages 3-14
  • Provide excellent customer service and public relations, and enjoy working in an outdoor environment 

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience planning and leading children’s programs and activities
  • Education in recreation, education or child and youth care
  • Current Standard First Aid / CPR C and Criminal Record Check
  • Class 4 driver’s license (not required for all positions)

Licensed Summer Camp Leaders also require:
o    Minimum 19 years of age
o    20 hours of coursework related to the position

Please note: Some of these positions are eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Grant, and preference may be given to candidates who meet the necessary requirements (full time students between 15 – 30 years old who are enrolled in full time secondary or post secondary studies).

Salary: $16.80 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2016 rates)
Temporary Position: expected to work up to 40 hours per week, up to 3 months
