SKATE INSTRUCTOR – AUXILIARY
[THIS IS A UNION POSITION]
INTERNAL/EXTERNALOPPORTUNITY
COMPETITION NUMBER: 17 - 31
 
This is an auxiliary position requiring the incumbent to work with Esquimalt Parks and Recreation during the ice season (approximately August – March). Scheduled hours vary, must be available Tuesdays 3:45-6:15pm.
 
DUTIES:
Prepare lesson plans
Instruct children ages 3-12 years in skating lessons
Assess children’s skating skills
Complete written report cards
Communicate with parents/caregivers on their child’s progress
Ensure facility policies, procedures and regulations are implemented ensuring the ice complex area is safe.
Ensure proper documentation is completed for all accidents and incidents.
Performs other duties as required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with children, providing guidance and encouragement in learning new skills
Strong skating skills
Clear criminal record check
Greater Victoria Active Community Instructor Training (GVAC) (preferred)
Strong leadership skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with our team
 
SALARY:
$16.93 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits – hours will vary per week
