Located adjacent to downtown Victoria, Esquimalt is a residential community (population 17,000) with extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.

The Public Works Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill a regular, full-time Chargehand – Sidewalks & Concrete position. Reporting to the Public Works Manager, the incumbent is responsible for performing and coordinating asphalt and concrete maintenance and repairs to roads and sidewalks.

Additionally, the incumbent may be required to maintain sanitary and storm sewer drains, sewer lines, sewage pumping and metering equipment, valves and control devices; and for performing construction work such as erect shoring in excavation and ditches.

The ideal candidate will have three years of related Public Works experience that includes the following:

  • Asphalt maintenance and repairs; preparing forms; mixing and pouring concrete; finishing concrete surfaces; raking and compacting asphalt
  • Experience using a variety of hand tools and power equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to identify work required and to organize and prioritize the work of a crew
  • Accurate record keeping for daily work records, time sheets, and completion of forms

Salary: $30.61 hourly (2018 rates) plus benefits
