YOUTH SUPERVISOR – Regular Part Time- Temporary, approximately 16 months

Competition Number 23-07 INTERNAL/EXTERNAL OPPORTUNITY  (THIS IS A UNION POSITION)

Anticipated start date: March,2023

This position requires you to:

  • Assist the Recreation Programmer in hiring, training, and scheduling youth staff at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre.
  • Supervise and coach youth centre staff.
  • Assist the Recreation Programmer in the development of youth programs and special events.  This includes the assessment of program needs, the development and supervision of program details, liaise with Parks and Recreation Department staff, customers and user groups, and the evaluation of programs and events.
  • Assist in the preparation of program schedules for the teen centre.
  • Oversee the daily operation of the youth programs and teen centre to ensure all safety, risk management, emergency response / first aid, program, and facility standards are maintained
  • Work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and school hours to provide outreach.  

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Diploma in Recreation, Child and youth care, or equivalent education
  • Current Standard First Aid Certification (16-20 hours)
  • Class 4 Driver’s License and current Criminal Record Check

Experience:

One years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

SALARY:  $34.22 - $36.91 per hour (2023 rates) plus 14% in lieu of benefits

SCHEDULE: Approximately 26 hours/week up to a maximum of 35 hours per week.

September – June: Wednesdays: Afternoon/Early Evening; Thursday – Saturday: Evenings

July – August: Monday- Friday – hours based on operational/program need
