Youth Program Leader – Auxiliary

Located adjacent to downtown Victoria, Esquimalt is a residential community (population 17,000) with extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.

This is an auxiliary position requiring the incumbent to work with Community Recreation.  Scheduled hours may vary, 3-4 days a week with typical 2–3-hour shifts.

Programs will run out of Esquimalt Teen/Recreation Centre and in surrounding schools such as Esquimalt High and Rockheights Middle School. Teen Nights run Thursday-Saturday 7-10pm. Other youth programs we offer typically run as after school programs, from approximately 3-6pm. 

  • Staff will be responsible for welcoming youth, ensuring sign-in occurs, preparing snacks with youth, supervising, developing and leading activities which may include games, crafts, cooking, homework help, pool, and foosball.
  • Staff will provide all required care and support including, but not limited to, behaviour management, parent communication, and first aid.
  • Additional duties may be required during specialized programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Experience working with youth
  • Post Secondary Education desired, preferably in the areas of Recreation, Child and Youth Care, Social Work
  • First Aid Certification is required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with our team
  • A clear and current criminal record check (including vulnerable sector check) is a condition of employment and is the financial responsibility of the successful candidate

This position requires you to supervise Grade 6-12 youth programs.

Salary: $20.23-$21.86 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2023 rates).
