Located adjacent to downtown Victoria, Esquimalt is a residential community (population 17,000) with extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.
The Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill a full-time Lead Gardener position. Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, this position requires an exceptional team player with the ability to maintain a high standard of maintenance and coordination while performing the following duties:
- Provide leadership and direction to parks staff. Assign work and provide input for the evaluation of employee performance.
- Provide customer service to park users and responds to complaints.
- Maintain park areas; trim hedges; fertilize, weed, edge lawn areas and flower beds; dig, mulch and prepare soil for plants; control pests through application of pesticides;
- Plan, design, and select shrubs, perennials and bedding displays for parks and traffic islands;
- Prunes and maintains trees and shrubs;
- Empty garbage cans in parks, pick up litter and maintains park washrooms
- Orders supplies and materials
- Prepares inspection reports
Qualifications:
- Technical school diploma in Horticulture. (2 years) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers Licence.
- Pesticide Applicator's Certificate.
Experience:
- 2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary: $32.48 per hour plus benefits (2021 Rates)
