Located adjacent to downtown Victoria, Esquimalt is a residential community (population 17,000) with extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.

A career opportunity exists for a Manager of Engineering within the Township of Esquimalt.  Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Public Works, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Engineering team and providing capital program oversight to meet the project delivery goals set for the department.  Working with the Manager of Public Works and the Director, the incumbent will utilize project management best practices to plan, design, and undertake capital projects while meeting goals in a safe, cost effective, and timely manner.  The Manager also works collaboratively with the Development team in approving third party developments. 

The ideal candidate will have:  significant experience in managing the delivery of municipal capital projects; a university degree in engineering with P. Eng designation, or an equivalent combination of experience and education; a valid Class 5 driver’s licence; and verification of a criminal record check which meets criteria for this position.

The ideal candidate will also possess:

  • Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to create and work in a collaborative team environment;

  • Thorough knowledge of current engineering principles and practices as applied to planning, design, construction and maintenance of municipal infrastructure; and

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with staff and Council, as well as with other representatives of government, developers, and the general public.

Annual Salary: $99,232 - $112,764
