Located next to downtown Victoria, the Township of Esquimalt, with a population of over 17,000, is home to Canada’s Pacific Naval Fleet. The community boasts extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.

About our Organization:

The Archie Browning Sports Centre is a multi-use facility, which includes an ice arena, a six-sheet curling rink, lounge areas and the Township of Esquimalt Parks & Recreation Department Administrative Office

About the Opportunity:

The Recreation Department is seeking motivated individuals to fill two auxiliary skate instructor positions. Reporting to the Events & Ice Programs Supervisor, the ideal candidate will have experience in:

  • Preparing lesson plans
  • Instructing children ages 3-12 years in skating lessons
  • Assessing children’s skating skills and completing written report cards
  • Communicating with parents/caregivers on their child’s progress
  • Ensuring facility policies, procedures and regulations are implemented keeping the ice complex area safe
  • Ensuring proper documentation is completed for all accidents and incidents
  • Performing additional duties as required.

Other preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience working with children, providing guidance and encouragement in learning new skills
  • Strong skating skills
  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check
  • Inter‐municipal Learn to Skate Instructors Training (preferred)
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with our team

Salary: $20.23 – $21.86 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits (2023 rates)

3-4 hours a week
