Heritage features -- including buildings, trees, First Nations cultural features, natural areas, roads and viewpoints -- are important community amenities that give the community a “sense of place."
There are many buildings and sites in Esquimalt that represent a specific period in the Township’s settlement history.
The Township encourages the recognition and adaptive re-use of heritage structures, provided that the essential character of the building or site can be maintained. [Esquimalt Official Community Plan, 2007]
