Runners and Walkers Take to the Streets this Saturday in Esquimalt - Drivers Advised to Exercise Caution

Come on out and cheer on participants in the LifeMark Health Esquimalt 5k Fun Run and Walk this Saturday, March 22nd. Some 500 runners and walkers are expected to take part in the event. The Kid’s 1K Fun Run starts at 8:00 a.m., while the 5K race begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Kid’s 1K race route is an out and back course along Lyall Street from the Esquimalt Recreation Centre, south down Lampson Street to Macaulay School and back to the Recreation Centre.

The 5K race circuit starts at the Archie Browning Sports Centre rear parking lot and comprises Lyall Street, Admirals Road, Plaskett Place, Munro Street, Clifton Terrace, Lampson Street as well as Saxe Point Park and Macaulay Point Park. The race finishes at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre Lacrosse Box on Lyall Street.


Safety and Traffic Information:


Lyall street will be closed between Fraser Street and Lampson Street from 7:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Drivers will still have access to all other streets during the event, but are asked to exercise caution while participants are on the course.

Traffic controllers wearing safety vests will be directing vehicles at intersections, and there may be delays while runners are on the course, particularly at the starting area at the corner of Lyall and Fraser, and on Admirals Road.

Residents living on the race route are also advised to use caution when pulling out of their driveways and to watch for participants.
